Rug Formats

Rugs have captivated collectors since their origins and even today they are considered to be priceless treasures and a must-have for those that can afford the exquisite extras life has to offer. Rugs can have many meanings, anything from decorations, to luxury items, to ancient relics. Since they can have such a wide variety of functions, it’s no wonder that they have different formats, or styles.

Skilled weavers are starting to get more recognition. In recent years, there has been a tremendous increase in the demand for tribal rugs. Tribal, or local, rugs are cheap and all the designing schemes come from the city centers. Sold exclusively in the town markets, tribal rugs simply follow the traditional styles and color palettes.

Suggested Rug Shopping Places

Passé or Modern Rug?

Are you wondering if you should start looking for a rug? There are 2 options most people immediately think of: Should I buy Traditional or Modern? Traditionally, original antique oriental rugs come at very high rates, as compared to machine-made modern rugs. If you have an exceptional sense of design, and your finances are sufficient, then be careful about looking into traditional, antique rugs. They’re intricate patterns and rich historical significance can turn you into an instant collector.

Modern, machine-made rugs can still display a beautiful pattern and resist wear and tear. They’re more available to more people across the world, and their prices aren’t too bad either! If you’re not really interested in historical significance, but you can appreciate a colorful pattern, a modern rug will more than suffice.

Interesting Rugs Formats

While arranging an area rug for your home, don’t forget to pick up a rug pad. Rug pads keep the rug from sliding and slipping on the floor. Don’t wait until you step on your new rug and push it out from under you. You don’t need that crash to tell you that you need a carpet pad – just head out and get one now. Buffering the rugs, rug pads also act as a pillow for the hard floors providing a softer feel on your feet.

Red in fashion! Persian area rugs are most commonly found in the rug-selling shops or antique shops selling rugs in large quantity. Most people prefer rugs that are mostly red in color. It’s a strong, attractive color, which is exactly what you want when you’re the proud owner of a beautiful area rug.  The other great thing about red, especially if you’re going to USE your rug, rather than just hang it on the wall, is that small dirt spots  will go unnoticed. Red Wine might not even stand out! Still, it helps to be careful around your rugs.

Depending on where the rug was created, it will definitely follow a particular format or style. It’s important to find a style that you like because it’s most likely going into your home. Don’t buy a rug just because you think someone else will appreciate – unless it’s a gift. Instead, find your style and get a rug that makes you smile! You can do a quick search online to get a feel for ‘your style’. Then you’ll be a more informed, prepared shopper when it comes time to actually head to the store.
