RUG BUYER CONSUMER GUIDE

How to Buy Discount Rugs

So you have decided that you need a new area rug but you do not want to invest in a really expensive piece to accent your living space. How do you go about shopping for a discount rug and still make sure you are getting your money's worth?

First of all, you must consider the purpose you have in mind for your new area rug. If it is to be a decorative piece that you plan to hang on a wall or keep away from excessive trafficking, your concerns where fabric are concerned are far less. You do not need to look for the most expensive, durable fabric if the rug is not going to be exposed to excessive wear and tear. On the other hand, if you are planning to put the rug in a high- traffic area, then material becomes paramount and the design may not end up being all that you had originally hoped to be able to achieve on a discount budget.

Once you have determined where your focus is to lie when purchasing a discount rug, you must consider the size of the rug you need to fill the space in question. If you need a larger area rug, than lesser materials may be necessary to consider when searching for a durable rug to be placed in a high-traffic area. Also, if the size is irregular, that will affect how much of a discount rug you can buy and still meet the demands of the spot into which it is to go.

Suggested Rug Shopping Places

After determining the basic requirements of the rug you wish to purchase, you can begin to explore where you want to look to purchase the discounted rug. Often times, rug outlets offer good quality rugs at a heavily discounted price simply because the style or design of the rug is from an older year and they wish to make room to display newer pieces. Sales such as these are an excellent way to find a quality area rug at a discounted price.

Also, on-line sites often offer off-brand names or older patterns that have been sold off by the original retailer and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the rug. Don't feel as if you need to buy a name or the latest trend in area rugs. The rugs you can find at discount shops are often very good quality at much lower prices.

Also, on-line or in person auctions or estate sales are another excellent avenue in which to seek an area rug at a much-reduced price. Because the items have been found in another person's house does not necessarily mean that it is used or ragged. often times at these auctions or estate sales, area rugs are found that have been rolled up in a corner somewhere but never displayed, or have simply been used as a wall-hanging for decorative purposes in its original home. And ultimately, the area rugs found in auctions or estate sales are usually in very good condition or they would not even have been attempted to be sold; the raggedy ones are usually donated to a thrift shop or simply thrown into the garbage.

But it is important to check out the reputation of the outlet, on-line site, auction house, or estate property sales office before considering an investment in any item from the same. Usually a simple check will tip you off to the reputation of the seller's organization and this can steer you clear of those with shady reputations or with less than stellar reputations. Also, don't forget to check into their return policy or warranty policy. Do they have one on their discounted area rugs? Or is it strictly “You buy it - you own it?” Is there a six month warranty on defects or is it an “as is” sale?

These policies can tell you a lot about the company you are considering purchasing from and can tell you how 'stuck' you will be if you are not happy once you get your new area rug home. Check them out and be comfortable with their terms before you buy to avoid to avoid 'buyer's remorse.'
