York, PA - State police in Adams County are investigating the theft of a Persian rug and alcohol taken from a home earlier this month, according to a news release.

Police said that between April 20 and Saturday, someone entered an unlocked house in the 700 block of Barlow Drive, Mount Joy Township, and took the rug, worth about $ 10,000, and alcohol.

Police did not provide a description of the rug or the alcohol.

Anyone with information about the break-in and theft is asked to call police at 717-334-8111.

COON RAPIDS, Minn. — HOM Furniture says it is expanding its array of flooring products with its new World Floor and Rugs department.

The Top 100 retailer already sells area rugs in its World Rugs department. It recently added the other flooring products to its six Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area showrooms. Offerings include hardwood, stone, tile, vinyl and laminate flooring and granite, marble, quartz and other stone countertops.

“In response to strong customer demand, we dramatically transformed our World Rugs departments to include a comprehensive selection of solid and engineered hardwood floors, bamboo, cork, ceramic tile, vinyl and laminate flooring,” Rodney Johansen, CEO, said in a statement. “The customer will not be disappointed in the selection of top quality or name brands in our showrooms.”

A rug is the central component (quite literally) to any room’s design. Even the absence of a rug makes a statement in a space.

Because of the importance (and price tag) a rug carries, I thought I had better get it right the first time. So, I sat down to research the “rules” of rug sizes.

Much to my type-A personality’s dismay, I couldn’t find anything concrete. In fact, there’s mostly just a jumbled mess of opinions, many of which oppose each other.

I did, finally, gather a few agreed-upon concepts that I thought I would share with you — just in case I’m not the only one out there researching rugs.

Rugs anchor a room: They are necessary to unify furniture, keeping individual pieces from looking like floating islands in the vast sea of the floor.

Never bisect a walkway with a rug: Either cover the area completely or not at all.

Give chairs room to scoot: A rug under a dining room table should extend a minimum of 18 to 24 inches from the edge of the table to accommodate chairs when pulled out. And that’s just what Moe Khalaj, the owner, wants to bring to you.

Well, that and an extensive collection of Persian rugs.

“This is the only place that has it all,” Khalaj explains. “I wanted to bring in all of this exotic food, boutique beer and wine and handmade Persian rugs, all under one roof. Nobody has ever done that, as far as I know, in America.”

Khalaj’s family has long been involved with both the selling of genuine Persian rugs from his native Iran and in the making of food. In fact, he himself has had a fascination with cooking from an early age.

“When I was a kid, eight or nine, I would stand by my mother’s [behind] and see what she was doing,” he says with a smile. “She would tell me, ‘Go outside and play, go with the other boys.
